Swab to Save Ruby event taking place in Dallas on Monday
An effort in Dallas on Monday to help one child could spread and help dozens or even hundreds of others. Jamie Kayser of Cook Children’s Hospital attended Good Day to share details about the 11 am-1pm event in Lot E in front of the American Airlines Center.
DALLAS – – Efforts in Dallas today to help one child could spread and serve many, many more.
It’s called “Swab to Save Ruby,” a special drive-through event to find a match for a bone marrow transplant.
Ruby was diagnosed with sickle cell anemia when she was just days old.
It affects your red blood cells and causes severe pain. It will eventually cause organ damage.
Ruby has been hospitalized 27 times and has been operated on four times in her short life.
“You will find your best donor match within your own ethnicity. Currently, not every patient in need of a bone marrow transplant or stem cell transport has the same opportunities. So we try to get as many people from different ethnicities into the registry as possible so that every patient has an equal opportunity, “said Jamie Kayser of Cook Children’s Hospital.
The passing swabs on Monday will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Lot E in front of the American Airlines Center. The entire process takes about five minutes.
Anyone interested in attending should write or visit a heyday at 614742 join.bethematch.org/heyday pre-register.
