Mislintat tells The athlete: “I respect Mikel very much. I would love to speak to him one day to understand his reasons for loaning Matteo and Lucas Torreira and to give him my opinion on their qualities.
“If you’re not playing Matteo in midfield, it has to be a very strong midfield.”
Mislintat brought Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to the Emirates Stadium but has also been criticized for deals like the one that saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Stephan Lichtsteiner arrive at Arsenal.
Mislintat added: “I am not ashamed of any of these transfers, on the contrary, I will always defend these guys.
“Not because they were my players, but because they were Arsenal players and capable players. You showed up.
“The team remained unbeaten in 22 games in all competitions, made it to the Europa League final and finished fifth with 70 points.
“You can say that is not good enough. But many teams would like to finish fifth now.
“I felt that we were on the right track and I would have enjoyed the opportunity to develop at Arsenal.”
