Santa comes earlier this year for state retirees as they are getting an extra $ 150 for Christmas this year.
The cabinet approved the one-time voluntary payment at a special meeting on Tuesday, December 21, the government said on Thursday.
This follows the announcement by Tourism Secretary Kenneth Bryan earlier this month that tourism grant recipients will receive an additional $ 500 for Christmas.
Minister of Finance and Economic Development Chris Saunders welcomed the pension supplement.
“I am delighted that our state pensioners will receive this additional payment for Christmas; We recognize the valuable contributions they have made during their time in public service. We were able to fund this payment through budget savings, ”Saunders said.
The additional pension payments will be paid to retirees who are part of the Public Service Pension Plan and will be transferred to the accounts of the recipients on Thursday.
Vice-Governor and Head of Public Service Franz Manderson thanked him for the payment, which will make the holiday a little more pleasant for the retirees.
“I thank my cabinet colleagues for helping our public service pensioners in this way. Many of them have served our beloved islands for decades and could easily be described as the backbone of our society. We are delighted to be able to give them this mark over the Christmas season, ”Manderson said in the statement.
